Bereavement Care

Bereavement Care provides a range of services for bereaved adults, children and young people, and those who care for them. They work with people who:
- have been bereaved regardless of when the loss occurred
- have experienced bereavement due to a sudden, unexpected or untimely death
- have witnessed a traumatic or violent death
- encounter death in their work
- have survived a disaster

Their mission statement is to relieve the suffering and distress caused by bereavement for all adults and children in the local community.

Their services are as follows:

Free visiting scheme
A chance to talk in confidence with a trained volunteer in your home or a mutually convenient venue. The service is free and confidential and most sessions last about an hour.

Support programme for children and young people affected by the loss of a family member, friend or teacher
Their Children’s Bereavement Visiting Group has specially trained volunteers who can visit you in school or at home to help you move through these difficult times.

Friendly support groups
Informal groups provide a friendly place to meet with other bereaved people, You can also chat privately with visitors. 

Bereavement Care offer training in listening skills for those visiting bereaved adults and in the understanding of bereavement issues. They also offer courses for teachers, healthcare professionals and those working with bereaved children and young people.
