The Silver Line

The Silver Line operates the only confidential, free helpline for older people across the UK that’s open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Their specially-trained helpline team offer information and advice, link callers to local groups and services and protect and support older people who are suffering abuse and neglect.

The Silver Line also offers a Telephone Friends service. This involves a weekly friendship telephone call with a trained volunteer, who the older person will be matched to based on their interests and preferences. This is not a counselling service and Silver Line Friends will not meet, or know the telephone numbers of the people they speak to. This service is also offered in letter-writing form (Silver Letters), as well as group telephone calls (Silver Circles). Finally, the Silver Connects service provides more intensive support, advice, and help with connecting to local services, relating to issues that range from housing and health issues, to finding lunch clubs and even financial concerns.
