Refuge is the country’s largest single provider of specialist domestic violence services. They offer a range of services to help women, children and men affected by domestic violence. These are as follows.
- National Domestic Violence Helpline: a free 24-hour telephone helpline service, which provides emotional support and practical information, helping women to explore their options and escape abuse
- A network of refuges across the country: emergency accommodation for women and children fleeing abuse, with specialist refuge staff on hand to provide emotional and practical support
- Independent domestic violence advocacy: expert guidance for women going through civil and criminal courts
- Child support workers: one-on-one and group sessions for our child residents of refuges
- Outreach services: outreach workers can meet with women at safe times in their own homes or in discreet places in the community to help them draw up safety plans, progress housing applications and also provide emotional support
- Culturally specific services: refuges and outreach programmes for Eastern European, African and Asian families
- Campaigning and policy work
