The Middle Eastern Women and Society Organisation (MEWSo) was established in 2010 with the aim of overcoming the isolation of vulnerable women who suffered from domestic and honour-related violence. Since then it has been working in the local communities all over London to forge networks of female refugees, to enable them to become friends, share experiences and advice and support each other to beat isolation.
MEWSo's services include:
- Counselling (one-to-one and group)
- Befriending (offered both in the client’s mother tongue or in English if she wishes to improve her English skills)
- One-to-one English learning support (for women who are newly arrived in this country and/or do not yet feel confident enough to participate in mixed aged groups)
- Advocacy (only for clients in Islington)
- A range of courses, including sport, art, beauty and wellbeing
- Help with getting to know the UK system
- Further wellbeing support, including stress management, diet and nutrition, and sexual health and family planning
