Combat Stress Ex-Services Mental Welfare Society

Combat Stress is the UK's leading Veterans' mental health charity. Their mission is to provide timely, effective clinical treatment and welfare support to Veterans who suffer from psychological wounds. Their treatment and support services are always free of charge, and are proven to work.

Veterans who come to Combat Stress will be offered evidence-based treatment programmes, designed to address mental health difficulties that are often complicated and long-standing. These programmes may progress through stages such as stabilisation, psycho-education, trauma-focused therapy, coping skills training and activities-based rehabilitation.

Combat Stress also runs a helpline that is available 24 hours a day via phone, text and email, to be used by Veterans and serving personnel (including reservists) strugging with psychological issues connected to their service as well as their families.

We directly employ our own clinical staff to provide our highly specialised treatment to UK veterans at our centres in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Our treatment is available online, in the community, through outpatient appointments and also on a residential basis when required.

Our 24-hour Helpline 0800 138 1619 is available to all veterans and their families for confidential mental health advice and support. We also have a range of online self-guided resources, to help veterans with a variety of mental health difficulties, including: PTSD, depression, anxiety, anger, and alcohol and substance misuse. These guides have been created by our specialist clinical team, in partnership with veterans. Guides are also available for veterans' families and employers of veterans.
