Community Eating Disorder Service for Children and Young People

The Community Eating Disorders Service (CEDS) offers help and support to children and young people aged 17 or under who have a suspected or confirmed eating disorder diagnosis. From Wednesday 1st November 2023 the service will be considering referals for young people who have 'mild' eating disorders, as well as those who may have a 'moderate' or 'severe' eating disorder.

Offer the following treatment packages:

Family Based Treatment (FBT): Parents are involved and supported in the task of feeding, regular weight and health checks,set meal plans, give advice and tips for coping, and hear every family member’s perspective

Individual Therapy:  Adolescent Focused Therapy (AFT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Enhanced (CBT-E). 

Parent Therapy: Early Intervention Parents Group involving 6 sessions. Support and learning into the important elements of eating disorders treatments.

Psychiatric Reviews

Dietetic consultion (offered when appropriate)

Medical Monitoring (offered when appropriate)

Waiting times:
For urgent referrals they aim to offer the first appointment within five days. For other referral they aim for the first appointment within four weeks
Who is it for:
Children and Young People aged 17 and under who are suffering with 'mild', 'moderate' or 'severe' eating disorders such as Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, Atypical anorectic and bulimic disorder

Referrals from GPs, other healthcare professionals, schools and colleges
