Age UK provide the following services:
Advocacy: independent support for older people who are 60+ living in the London Borough of Harrow. The Advocacy service aims to help people say what they want, secure their rights, represent their interests and obtain services that they need.
Carers' Support Service: short term support for carers to help them build up confidence, make new friends and become involved in their local community. The goal is to enable carers to take time out of their caring role thereby aiding them to improve their own health and wellbeing. Referrals can come from all health professionals, local organisations, family and friends or even individuals wishing to make use of the service themselves.
Fitter Feet: toenail cutting service by fully trained Foot Care attendants will cut toenails and give general foot care advice.
Handyperson and Gardening Project: support with repairs and improvements in the homes of Harrow residents who are 60+, including Small tasks, Medium tasks, Accident prevention and Gardening.
Home Support: home support services for older people who need a hand. This includes the home visiting service, where volunteers can visit you in your home for companionship, and the shopping service, where a volunteer helps you with your shopping.
Living Well With Dementia: weekly sessions for people with dementia and their carers, held on Thursdays from 10:30am to 12:30pm at Age UK Harrow. Each session costs £8 per couple/pair and will include seated exercise, activities, refreshments and the chance to chat with others in a similar position.
Silver Surfing: a wide range of options for first time computer users.
Social Partnership: there are a wealth of leisure, social and educational opportunities in Harrow, some specifically for older people but many providing a service across the age spectrum. They are provided through leisure centres, resource centres, community centres and educational establishments, many of which cater for specific ethnic groups.
Writing Your Will: Age UK Harrow has teamed up with Michael Hart from the Institute of Will Writers to provide a Will writing service for our members.
