Hillingdon Chronic Fatigue Service provides diagnosis, assessment and treatment for patients with mild to moderate Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and Myalgic Encephalopathy (ME). This service is delivered by a multidisciplinary team which includes a clinical psychologist, occupational therapist and physiotherapist, and supported by an assistant psychologist and service administrator. Medical diagnostic screening appointments are offered by a consultant neurologist on a locum basis.
Once a diagnosis of CFS/ME has been confirmed, further assessment and treatment is provided. The assessment framework and intervention strategies delivered are in line with NICE guidelines for the management of CFS/ME and follow a symptom-management framework, incorporating elements of graded exercise therapy (GET), activity management and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) principles.
Treatment is offered either in a group or individual format. The intervention programmes delivered as part of this service aim to teach patients the skills to self-manage their symptoms of chronic fatigue, and patients are strongly encouraged to continue these self-management skills on a long-term basis and beyond the end of the intervention received from the service.
